Hunting Contest or Deer Check in Board? 3 Months ago Karma: 12
Is there enough interest to put together a deer hunting contest or just a simple check in board for the blog?

I'd participate and I'm sure others on here would.

Something simple with simple rules and prizes.

Write back with your interest and ideas.

Rich said he'd support something like that.

Your thoughts?

Maybe the thread should have been titled "who'd like to have a big doe contest"?

I'd win that one...

I don't know about that Lane! Here in Georgia, we have a 10 deer limit with 8 being Does, 2 bucks, one being at least an 8 pointer.

The farm I hunt is overrun this year and I am going to have to try and take as many does as I can get off of there. As I only have "homes" for 4 or 5, and the fact that we can only use 3 in my freezer each year, I'm afraid that I will have to give all bucks a pass for this season. The DNR folks say we should remove 20-25 this year, preferably, all does.

We should have a few nice bucks around this year as I let an 8 pointer, 2-6 pointers and a big 4 pointer go last season. Unfortunately, I've not yet seen any on my cameras yet.

We're only allowed four in this part of Ohio. Two does in bow season, one doe in bow or gun season and one buck in bow or gun season. I've only had pics of one buck I would consider shooting so far. There's a lot of does- hope the bucks move in during the rut.

I just checked my card. He's still hanging around. He looks like a shooter from the pic. Its hard to tell until you see it from the stand.

I'll put together a prize package with camera and some other things. You guys work out the details. I might be able to get a donation from other vendors for more loot. I think it would be great for the winner to have taken a trail cam pic of the same animal and then the kill but that may make it a little tougher. I'll kick in a minimum of $250 worth of merchandise.

You can't beat that. Awesome Rich!

We need to hear from Flint...where is the man when we need 'em.

Would you guys like to team up or start small and hunt individually?

How about something simple check in two deer (one doe and one buck). We could put a point value together for those perhaps based on weight and points?

Your thoughts?

That is great! I like it small- individually. I guess we would have to go by field dressed weight on the doe. Would you want to do that for the buck? How about a combo of the weight and some sort of easy score for the rack. We could also throw in a kicker (as Rich suggested) if you have a Moultrie pic of the buck- extra credit points. The easier the better. Where are you at Flint? Rob- what are your thoughts? Ernie?

i think it is a good idea i dont know what would be good way to set it up. maybe the biggest buck and biggest doe. but something extra if you bag the deer you got on camera would be a great. maybe some kind of point system all through the year? the people that bow hunt would get a jump on things would like to get flint and ernies ideas on what they think but lane came up with a good idea lets get it going
