Time for concern? 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Ok. Yesterday it happened again. I was walking out to check on the I40 and saw a doe approx 10 ft in front of the camera. I hid in some brush and watched it for at least 15 minutes. I don't know how long it was there prior to me walking out there. It only took ONE picture during that entire time. Come on. It was no more than 10 ft in front of it!!!! How many pictures am I missing? This is not the first time I've had this happen. I thought the prior time was probably a fluke. I may buy a Cuddeback and be done with it.

Jack, I have both an I60 and an I40 (See my post on Reliability of I40.)

One thing about the I60 and the other field cams I own or have owned, is that there needs to be at least some motion to activate the camera to take a photo. If an animal is standing in front of the camera but moving very little, it will not trigger multiple pictures each time the delay times out. Generally, a deer just moving it's head up and down or flicking it's tail is not enough motion to set off the camera.

(I've not owned a Cuddleback however but their IR model is $400 - Too rich for my blood as I'd rather have multiple $200 ones for my needs for field cams.)

But like you, for me, they have to be reliable or they're not worth a cent.

That is what concerns me. This doe was walking all around. It passed the camera a few times while I was watching. The only pic it took was of its rear walking away. It didn't even take a pic when it first showed up. With the price of feed I need to see everything! I would really like to hear from those who have used other brands as well. I've only used Moultrie cams for the last 3-4 years and have had very little exposure to other brands. I'm looking forward to updates on your other post. Thanks, Jack

Ambient Temperature 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 3
Hi Jack,
One thing to consider is that the camera sets itself to the ambient temp of its surroundings. Ocasionally the temperature ( especially summertime) is close to the body temp of the deer and is less sensitive to be triggered. As the weather cools off you should get more events. Is the camera taking pictures? If so this is probably the case. Also check your delay settings and make sure the delay is not set above 1 minute if you want to get everything. If you still are experiencing problems, fall back on the Moultrie one year warranty. They have the best tech department in the industry and will repair it or replace it.

Hi Rich. It could be just that. That's the best reason I've heard so far. The sensor works purely on heat. Movement shouldn't have any affect on it. I'm getting pictures so the camera works. The delay is set at one minute. Sometimes it takes pic after pic one minute apart. It even caught a pic of me on my quad (which is hot) almost 70 feet away from the camera and running at least 5-10mph. I'll start monitoring pic frequency vs temp and see what I come up with. Moultrie's service dept is top notch. There is no doubt there.
